"Catty" Quake

Ranch/Cutting/Trail/Show-Safe

This mare was bred for cutting but she did not have enough cutting potential at a young age and that is how we ended up getting her. She qualified for the World Appaloosa show in 2023 (for the 2024 show) in Ranch Riding, Ranch Rail Pleasure and Ranch Trail with our trainer. While she did qualify, we did not feel like she was going to place well in the world show so we did not attend. Catty is a sweet mare that is always the first to greet you, and always first at feeding time. She has no vices and will be guaranteed sound. You will have 72 hours to get a PPE completed. If she does not pass we will refund your pay for the horse and the PPE as long as we can receive the PPE from the vet.

Catty is great on the trails and we recommend shoes for rocky paths. We keep her shod when showing or trail riding and leave her barefoot the rest of the time. Catty has been used to pony and start colts. She has been used for the friend who shows up who rides okay, but needs a trust worthy horse. She ties, stands tied, ties next to any horse, loads in any trailer, is great for the dentist, vet, etc. Catty bathes easily and stands great for the farrier. If Catty has been turned out to pasture for months at a time, she could do a little half kick up when you first lope but even a kid could handle it, she does not put much heart behind it. As long as she is ridden a few times a month it really is not an issue at all.
Catty has been worked on the flag and been used to move cattle around but I personally have never tried her on cutting out cattle. I believe that if given a job to sort she would love it. We often see her working the neighbors dairy cattle or donkeys along the fence line so we know she has it in her.

Catty would be suited for just about any rider than can ride. As long as she is tuned up I would put a kid or grandmother on her. She does ride in a bridle as long as you use your seat and legs. If you only ride with your hands I recommend a snaffle.

Catty has more whoa than go most of the time. However, if she has been turned out for months at a time all of her gaits are faster paced. Once she is tuned up she is calm and collected and a really nice mare to ride.

As she stands, Catty would make a good broodmare, a nice working ranch horse, a pleasure trail horse or a fun day show horse or a fun day sorting horse. With time and training I have no doubt she could be a contender at the Appaloosa World Show. She has more potential than I have time.

Catty really has not had a chance to reach her potential in life. She has a great, quiet foundation but really needs a job. We just do not have the time to put her to work, although it is not unusual for her to be pulled out of pasture for the impromptu horse show, trail ride, search and rescue or using horse. She is simply an all around good horse to have around with LOADS of potential.
